A few years ago when I lived in Oklahoma I coined the phrase "Find the beauty or create it yourself" when I was asked for advice on how military spouses pass the time when our loved ones are deployed. I grew up and spent most every minute of my life in the NW so when I moved to Oklahoma I was struggling to see any beauty. This became my mission and over the 11 months I lived there and I found a lot of it. It was just different from what I was used to. Just because the beauty is different doesn't make it not exist. This phrase also helps me get through the dreadful winter months. I'm so not a fan of winter. I don't like the lack of flowers or green leaves on the trees. I usually describe winter as dark, colorless and blah. I also tend to suffer from a severe case of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). NOT THIS YEAR! I refuse! So I'm taking a LOT of VitD3 and I'm taking my real camera or my camera phone out every day to find whatever beauty I can find and I started on November 1st... I just didn't know it till November 2nd... My goal is to find and photograph at least 1 (but probably more... knowing me) beautiful thing everyday. EVERY. DAY.
I shot the picture below with my Note2 while scouting locations for family pictures yesterday. Technically it's not winter till Yule (winter solstice) but I'm starting now because I need to be reminded that these months are still beautiful starting now. No spiraling into the winter blues this year!
I had no problem finding it when I wasn't even looking 2 years ago so I'm sure I'll have no issues this year.
And if I find myself having any trouble I'll just photograph my kiddos... there is always beauty there.
I don't even have to go outside if I don't want to. I can find the beauty anywhere!
Creating beauty can be anything from food...
To grabbing my family and friends and creating fun memories.... fun is beautiful. ;)
So this is my plan. Find the beauty... or create the beauty myself. Share the beauty YOU find on Instagram! Use #FindTheBeauty2014
